Key Stage 4

“The curriculum in Years 10 and 11 meets the needs, aspirations and interests of students well.” (Ofsted 2007)
In Year 10 more specialised courses are adopted and these are pursued through Year 11. The aim is to provide a broad and balanced curriculum which avoids too early specialisation in a narrow range of subjects. To ensure breadth, students are required to continue with certain National Curriculum subjects.

The current Year 10 and 11 requirement is for English, Mathematics, Science, Technology, a Foreign Language, Physical Education (PE), Information Technology and Religious Education. English Literature is taught alongside English as an integrated course, leading to separate qualifications. The Information Technology course leads to Functional Skills qualification. There is a tutorial period for Careers, Citizenship and other cross-curricular elements. All other subjects are selected in the options’ process. Some students are selected for an alternative curriculum that is specifically designed to meet their needs.

In Key Stage 4, your child will study a mix of compulsory and optional subjects. In addition, pupils have to take careers education and work-related learning.

Below are our departmental curriculum maps so you can keep track of what your child will be studying.

You can find learning resources realted to each of these subjects on our VLE. Here, staff will add helpful material to enable continued learning outside the classroom.
